Emilie truly helped me to move towards comfort and confidence in order to do something that I felt almost crazy for doing- a solo dance for a poetry video series while seven months pregnant! She guided me through a fear releasing session to confront the inhibitions I had about taking on this project. Then, we moved into a practical movement session where she reminded me the power of subtle, intentional and focused movements. She also reminded me the power for facial expression. I appreciated her guidance, professionalism and passion and would be happy to work with her again.

Our experience with Emilie was fantastic! She has a teaching style that is full of energy and enthusiasm while being incredibly supportive of all students. She effortlessly combined history, culture, and movement to create a rich learning experience. My students loved her classes. In a short amount of time, she was able to help them perform with confidence.

I loved it! I was very unsure and felt uncomfortable with some of the movements on the first day, but Emilie made me feel so confident by the end of the week.

Thank you so much. I learned so much. I knew nothing about this style of dance before. I liked all the movements. It was so much fun. Ayibobo!

“Emilie Jabouin is such a wonderful person to have as part of the artist that were featured in the Beyond Strong Community Project. This Project asked 6 black artists to provide experiences that would support ease, joy and liberation for black women. And Emilie put together a wonderful event where women were invited through chanting, through drumming, through movement to access all of these things in a way that was really powerful. All the women who attended commented on how well supported they felt throughout the event. They also commented on how Emilie’s way of leading, but also sharing, and also connecting to the participants was such a really important part of them being able to access ease and joy, and liberation. I really appreciated Emilie’s expertise, but really her experience and her knowledge of Indigenous Caribbean, Haitian, African ways of knowing and being that related to the arts and that supported us in terms of our liberation. So, Emilie was very aware of the energies in the room, and as always, she always sought to really connect with the people in the group in order to make sure that the pace of the experience were really going to be meaningful, and were going to be something that the women in our group in particular could really take with them and use in the future. So I really appreciated having Emilie’s wisdom, having her talent and her beautiful dance chanting, and drumming, and having just her spirit that is so inviting, so welcoming. Really appreciated having her as part of our group. Thank you Emilie.”

“Thank you so much Emilie and please keep doing these [“Konbit Hour” IG live] interviews it’s so beautiful and meaningful and honestly it’s very motivating for someone like me - I honestly fell into tears listening to it knowing it touches on something so scary to me about the commitment to navigating Nubian history and making art that tells the stories of my ancestors with these concerns of stability and making a living.”
